MOCA GA Rebrand
Client: Museum of Contemporary Arts GA
Year: 2015
Role: Art Director, Designer
Team: Creative Director Stefan Kjartansson, Designer Yoonhwa Jang
Artists Shown: Sarah Emerson, Sheila Pree Bright
Logo and visual identity for MOCA GA, an Atlanta-based museum, spotlighting works from Georgian artists in painting, print, sculpture, and photography. Although the initial request was a new online platform to emphasize MOCA’s leadership in Southern contemporary arts properly, our team saw an opportunity to refresh their core logo and brand.
Through extensive research and time spent with the MOCA team, we routed their brand image closer to a provocative ‘edge,’ where so many of their artists and work already resided. The result is an expressive system based around bold typography with an image bar disrupting the words. The customized typeface, engineered for a perfect balance of legibility and art, allowed the MOCA staff to take the brand’s reigns and effortlessly apply it across mediums.
